ATERONON™ is a ‘one-a-day’ food supplement that has been shown to help inhibit the oxidation of LDL cholesterol (‘bad’ cholesterol).

The beneficial ingredient of ATERONON™ is lycopene, an important natural antioxidant found in the health-promoting Mediterranean diet. Lycopene is an antioxidant present in tomatoes and some other red fruit. In the form found in tomatoes, the large crystals of lycopene make it difficult for the human body to absorb. As for many foods, a particular ingredient may be good for us, but the body may not be able to readily absorb the ingredient directly from the food or supplement.
After 7 years of research and clinical trials, Cambridge Theranostics have developed a formulation that breaks down the large lycopene molecules so that the body can easily absorb and therefore benefit from this proven antioxidant (Cambridge Theranostics are a bio-technology spin-out of Cambridge University, originally funded by The British Heart Foundation). ATERONON™ is the first and only lycopene-based supplement shown to provide bioavailable lycopene and shown to be effective in helping to inhibit the oxidation of LDL cholesterol.
Inhibition of LDL oxidation helps to prevent a key step in the development of plaque in the arteries. This is important in maintaining a healthy circulation and heart.

In trials, levels of lycopene in the blood of volunteers doubled after only a 2 week period of taking ATERONON™. ATERONON™ is the only supplement that has been shown to provide bioavailable lycopene, which is absorbed at levels known to achieve health benefits when taken at the recommended dose.
Reducing the oxidation of LDL cholesterol
Having achieved high levels of lycopene absorption in the body, ATERONON™ was next trialed to understand the bio-chemical impact that this powerful antioxidant could have on the body.
In trials, ATERONON™ was shown to typically inhibit the oxidation of LDL cholesterol by up to 90% after two months of daily use.
When LDL cholesterol is oxidised, it contributes to the build-up of plaque in our arteries, creating a narrower space for our blood to pass through.
The process of plaque build-up (or atherosclerosis) in our arteries typically starts from around 18 years of age and is influenced by a number of factors, such as diet and level of exercise.
